Welcome to Wednesday, March 18th, tricycles and unicycles...

Former Vice President Joe Biden has swept the first primaries since COVID-19 was declared a national emergency.

Biden is projected to win all three states that voted on Tuesday: Florida, Arizona, and Illinois.

Ohio was also set to vote yesterday, but the governor closed the polling sites, citing the coronavirus health emergency.

Biden's main competitor in the last few races has been (and will continue to be?) Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

"This is a moment where we need our leaders to lead,” Biden said in somber remarks from his home in Wilmington, Delaware, on Tuesday night.

“But it’s also a moment where the choices and decisions we make as individuals are going to collectively impact on what happens, make a big difference in the severity of this outbreak and the ability of our medical hospital systems to handle it."

Biden also made an appeal to Sanders' supporters:

"Let me say, especially to the young voters who have been inspired by Senator Sanders. I hear you. I know what’s at stake. I know what we have to do. Our goal as a campaign — and my goal as a candidate for president — is to unify this party and then to unify the nation."

Did you (or would you) vote for Biden?

U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll Passes 100

The number of Americans who have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) passed 100 on Tuesday. As of 10:30pm ET, there were 6,362 reported cases and 108 deaths.

Of the first 100 reported fatalities, 85% were older than 60. 45% were older than 80.

The coronavirus has spread to all 50 states and Washington, D.C. A growing number of states are ordering the closing of bars and restaurants to combat the outbreak.

To try and stem the economic fallout from the virus, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Tuesday that the White House supports immediate cash payments to Americans.

“We’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately. And I mean now, in the next two weeks.”
