John, service to others is everything to me. Let me explain:

I served my country as a U.S. Navy Veteran.

I enlisted in the Navy right after I graduated high school, and earned an ROTC Scholarship. My dad and my grandfathers all served in our military and put their lives on the line serving in Vietnam and in WWII. I wanted to follow their example and serve my country.

I served my community as an advocate for education and public schools.

I supported Yellow Ribbon programs for local fellow veterans, established scholarships, and was on the advisory board of Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative for college access.

I served my constituents when I was a Member of Congress from 2018 - 2020.

I was elected in a brutally close election, flipping a Republican-held seat for Democrats. I worked very hard to improve the lives of veterans and working families in my district. In fact, my office directly recovered over $550,000 for my constituents, and secured $136 Million in non-COVID related grants for infrastructure and services. I also publicly co-authored a call to impeach President Trump for his offenses, despite being in a competitive swing-district.

I served President Biden as one of his Under Secretaries of Defense.

I put our military servicemembers first, spearheading important diversity & inclusion policies early on. I also led the creation of the Pentagon’s new reproductive healthcare policy for military members, guaranteeing their heathcare rights no matter where they are stationed. I helped with the creation of an independent counsel’s office for sexual assault cases. And I worked hard to ensure that the Department of Defense implemented Universal Pre-K Education for our members' families.

I'm not running for Congress again in this key California district out of ego or pride, like so many politicians. Service is in my bones. I know that I can do more to help others — that's always been my driving force. But I need your help to win. My campaign needs to raise $3,250 this week and we're not on pace to reach it. Can I ask you to find a way to pitch in a few dollars to help? [[link removed]]
