UPDATE

March 18, 2020

Dear Immigrants Rising Family,

You are not alone! In moments of uncertainty and fear, we find strength within ourselves and our communities. We can support one another to stay safe, keep informed, and move forward one step at a time.

While our hearts are with all individuals affected by the COVID-19 virus, we are especially concerned about undocumented individuals, who will be disproportionately impacted by this public health crisis.

To help our community access the information and resources needed to thrive in this moment, our team is developing powerful new ways to engage with you virtually.

Here is what we are able to share right now:

LIST OF RESOURCES (FOR UNDOCUMENTED INDIVIDUALS AND ALLIES)

We have put together this list of resources to help undocumented individuals and allies navigate the crisis. Please contact us if there are additional resources that you would like to add to this document. We will continue to update the list as the situation develops. Access the list of resources here.

WELLNESS GATHERINGS (FOR UNDOCUMENTED INDIVIDUALS)

We are launching a series of virtual wellness gatherings geared toward helping undocumented individuals stay grounded and connected to one another.

Led by Liliana Campos, Immigrants Rising’s Mental Health Advocate, these virtual gatherings will convene experienced facilitators—psychologists, coaches, traditional healers—to guide undocumented individuals through interactive activities. Liliana will also share resources for participants to check out on their own throughout the week. We hope these virtual sessions and tools will support participants' long-term resilience and coping strategies.

Join us for our first virtual wellness gathering TONIGHT (Wednesday, March 18th) 6-7 pm PT.

This wellness gathering will focus on the value of meditation in our efforts to transform individual and collective suffering and maintain resilience during especially traumatic as well as chronically stressful times. A guided meditation will be facilitated to help undocumented individuals access both a sense of rest and attentiveness. We will close with a Q & A and a brief sharing period, in which we can all learn together. Our guest will be Joseph Bobrow, who is the founding teacher at Deep Streams Zen Institute in Sherman Oaks, CA. An author, activist, and psychoanalyst, he has long been integrating Western psychology with Buddhist practice to create communities that transform individual and collective anguish. Register for tonight’s virtual wellness gathering here.

STAY TUNED

Please stay tuned for more information and resources from our team here at Immigrants Rising. We are committed to doing whatever we can to support you during this crisis.

We are in this together.

Founded in 2006, Immigrants Rising transforms individuals and fuels broader changes. With resources and support, undocumented young people are able to get an education, pursue careers, and build a brighter future for themselves and their community.
