2023 In Review: The Youth Vote's Impact

We’ve had a big year, team. From fighting for abortion access to pointing and laughing (sometimes cringing) at the shenanigans in Congress, 2023 has proven to be a year we won’t be forgetting any time soon. Most significantly we proved yet again that the youth vote is powerful and that young Americans are ready to make a difference.

NextGen is dedicated to empowering the youth vote. That wouldn’t be possible without your support every step of the way. So before the ball drops, we wanted to give our thanks to you and let you know the difference the youth vote has made.

The Youth Vote Nationwide

With key issues like abortion access on the line in several states, the youth vote showed up and showed out at the polls this year. Young voters refused to be taken in by false promises and confusing rhetoric. Thanks to volunteers spending countless hours spreading the word about these critical elections, millions of young people headed to the polls to make their voices heard. And that’s something to celebrate.

Protecting Our Rights

Issues like abortion access and voting rights were top of mind for young Americans heading to the polls. With threats to our rights coming from seemingly all directions, it was more important than ever to encourage new voters to get registered and make sure established voters knew that their vote still mattered.

Young people fought for our rights all year long and won major battles in key states like Virginia and Pennsylvania. We’re not done fighting, and we know we can count on you to keep showing up for our rights in 2024 and beyond.

Championing Climate Action

Young people, and especially young people of color, have been hit the hardest by the impacts of our current climate crisis. In 2023, we saw some of the fiercest fighting from young Americans to take a stand against climate change, with amazing results! Since the Inflation Reduction Act was passed, young Americans have and will continue to see huge results on climate. And since there’s no Planet B, we’re going to keep fighting climate change for all of 2024 and beyond.

The Fight for Human Dignity

Vulnerable communities across the country have faced ignorant attacks throughout 2023. Thankfully, young Americans have refused to let that slide. We’ve protested bans on drag, fought against attacks on trans kids, stood strong with victims of racist extremism, and much more. We’re not going to stop fighting for human dignity. And we’re so glad that you’re in this fight with us.

2023 might be over, but 2024 is already shaping up to be a year like none other. We need all hands on deck to empower the youth vote to show up and show out at the polls in November. So if you haven’t already, will you pledge to vote in 2024 and use your voice to make a difference: [link removed]
