When George Clooney and I founded The Sentry in 2016, our goal was to hit war criminals where it hurt: their wallets. What started as an investigative project focused on four countries in East and Central Africa is now an independent nonprofit with programs in nine countries across three continents.

The Sentry has exposed the corrupt activity of some of the world’s deadliest war criminals and their international accomplices, delivering more than 100 investigative case files and contributing to sanctions designations, asset freezes, and travel bans on some of the worst human rights offenders and major facilitators of corruption. This pressure helped prevent a return to war in South Sudan and paved the way for the first peaceful transition of power in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2018.
