VICTORY! BUZZFEED REPORTS: A Progressive Challenger Has Beaten One Of The Last Anti-Abortion Democrats In Congress

Marie Newman (IL-03) just knocked off a pro-corporate, anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ "Democratic" Congressman in the Illinois primary. Thousands of PCCC members donated to her campaign! She will be the next member of Congress for this bright blue district.

Other neck-and-neck primaries against corporate Democrats are around the corner, but grassroots campaigns are being hindered by the coronavirus. They need your help to re-tool their campaigns -- including spending more on virtual town halls, phone programs, texting, and online ads.

BIG UPDATE: Rockstar progressive Morgan Harper (OH-03) expected her election to be today. It was just put off until June! She outfundraised her corporate Democrat opponent, funded an amazing grassroots campaign, but now is running out of money and needs to fund 3 more months of campaigning. Can you rush a donation her way?

In this moment, we need more #WarrenDemocrats -- folks who are ready to take serious action in this crisis. As Mark Ruffalo said to PCCC members this week, "We need more members of Congress willing to challenge power, fight for working people, boldly fight the climate crisis, and think big to solve our current healthcare crisis."

Here are progressive congressional candidates who need your help retooling their campaigns in this coronavirus world. Please chip in what you can to their races today:

Morgan Harper (OH-3) is running against incumbent Joyce Beatty in the Ohio primary, now scheduled for June 2. Beatty has taken over $2 million in corporate PAC money, worked with Republicans to gerrymander this very-Democratic seat, and recently trash talked Medicare For All and a Green New Deal. Morgan was previously a senior adviser at Elizabeth Warren's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The NY Times reports "there are similarities between Ms. Harper, 36, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York" as she campaigns against economic segregation. Since the launch of her grassroots campaign on July 1, she’s raised a whopping $650,000 from nearly 6,000 individuals with no corporate PAC money -- that’s more donations in 8 months than donated to Rep. Beatty in 9 years. Chip in $1 to Morgan and others here.

Kara Eastman (NE-2) is running in a primary on May 12 to take on Republican incumbent, Don Bacon. National Republicans have listed Bacon, who has voted in line with Donald Trump's position 94% of the time, as one of the 10 most vulnerable Republicans in the country and have asked their major donors to step in. Last cycle, the entire political establishment said Kara Eastman could never defeat a pro-life, pro-corporate "Democrat" in the primary. Kara won. Then, the Democratic establishment left her to fend for herself. She got 49%, with over 10,000 grassroots donations from PCCC members. She proved that you can run ANYWHERE on a bold progressive message of Medicare for All, a $15 minimum wage, and other bold ideas. Now, Kara is running to finish the job. Mondaire Jones (NY-17) is running in a crowded primary on April 28 for an open blue seat (the previous Democrat, Rep. Nita Lowey, decided to retire.) Mondaire was born in his district, and raised in Section 8 housing by a single mom who worked multiple jobs. He earned a Stanford BA, worked at the Department of Justice, graduated from Harvard Law School, founded a nonprofit, and then returned home to work as an attorney in Westchester County. He’s running on a platform that includes Medicare for All, universal child care, student debt forgiveness, and the Green New Deal. He’s endorsed by Democracy for America, Collective PAC, the Victory Fund -- and Elizabeth Warren! Chip in $1 to Mondaire and others here.

Candace Valenzuela (TX-24) advanced to a May 26 runoff after coming in the top two in the Texas primary. She is running to replace retiring Republican Rep. Kenny Marchant in TX-24, one of the most flippable races in the country in 2020. Candace grew up in a military family that struggled financially, and for a time, they were homeless. She went on to become an educator, and then was the first Latina and African-American woman elected to her local school board. She is also one of our training alums, and is endorsed by Elizabeth Warren! Chip in $1 to Candace and others here.

Mike Siegel (TX-10): Mike ran in a competitive primary on Super Tuesday, coming in first but advancing to a runoff on May 26. The winner will face off against Republican incumbent Michael McCaul, who votes with Trump 96.4% of the time. Mike nearly beat McCaul last cycle — with no institutional support. McCaul Mike is a former union organizer, public school teacher, and an Austin city attorney who took on Texas Republicans to demand gun reforms. As a civil rights lawyer he also sued employers on behalf of women who experienced discrimination in the workplace and whistleblowers who suffered retaliation. Mike is endorsed by local and national unions, and by the Sunrise Movement for his commitment to the Green New Deal. Mike is the only one who can finish the job and flip this district, and he needs your help to do it. Chip in $1 to Mike and others here.

Georgette Gómez (CA-53): is advancing to the general election for this open seat via California's jungle primary system, along with Democrat and heiress Sara Jacobs, who she'll face off against in November. Jacobs' campaign is being supported by a super PAC funded entirely by her billionaire parents. Georgette is a first-generation American, the daughter of immigrants. As she says, she had "the privilege of documents" and her parents did not, and as a result, she saw how much they struggled against the system. She spent a decade as a community organizer working on environmental justice, land use decisions and the impacts of heavy industry, and then became the first queer Latina member of the San Diego city council, where she chairs the transit system and put forward a resolution against the border wall. She is endorsed by the California Democratic Party, the California Federation of Teachers, SEIU, and UNITE HERE. Chip in $1 to Georgette and others here.

Jon Hoadley (MI-06): Jon is running against Congressman Fred Upton, former chair of the Energy Committee and one of the worst Republicans on climate. Jon is one of the few openly gay members of the Michigan state legislature and has been a champion for progressive issues throughout his career. He supports Medicare for All, expanding Social Security, and the Green New Deal. Chip in $1 to Jon and others here.

Arati Kreibich (NJ-5) is challenging one of AOC's top antagonists in the Democratic Caucus, corporate conservative Josh Gottheimer. Gottheimer organized other conservative Democrats to kill attempts to end child cages at the border -- an absurd position for someone representing a suburb of New York. He is funded by Wall Street and votes their way. Arati won election as a progressive City Councilwoman, attended our candidate training, and is fighting for Medicare For All, Green New Deal and challenging big-money special interests. Chip in $1 to Arati and others here.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.
