When President and Mrs. Carter started the fight against Guinea worm in 1986, there were an estimated 3.5 million cases annually. This year, there were fewer than 15 cases in the whole world!
All of this has been accomplished through volunteer-led preventive education and simple, low-cost methods like water filtration.
