Hello John, my name is David Hogg. A little over two years ago, I sat down for the first time to write an email like this one, directed to thousands I hadn’t met but hoped would join our cause in electing Maxwell Frost.
I knew, despite all odds, that grassroots donations were powerful enough to elect the leader we deserved.
I also knew that, no matter how much money was raised at that time, not a single dollar could be used to help alleviate the #1 challenge young candidates face: financial hardship.
It's one thing to know the system is rigged against young people and the working class. It is another to witness first hand the lengths a candidate like Maxwell, who is not independently wealthy, must go to just to pay the bills.
Earlier this year, Maxwell (aka “Congressman Frost”, first Gen Z Member of the House) testified in front of the FEC. His stories of driving Uber into the early hours of the morning just to make ends meet on the campaign trail were more than just tales of hardship– they were a testament to an uneven playing field.
And I’m thrilled to share that the FEC just approved a new rule that would allow candidates to use campaign funds for a salary while they are running for office. Now, even more young, working-class candidates can run for office and break into the system that’s built to keep them out.
Maxwell and Leaders We Deserve are fighting to make our political system more accessible to young, working-class people. But to keep up the fight, we need that same grassroots support that got us here. Can you split a donation of $27 between Maxwell’s campaign and Leaders We Deserve to fuel our movement towards progress? >>
Thank you,
David Hogg
