Friends,
With the coronavirus pandemic on everyone’s mind right now, I want to keep you
updated on what we are doing in Congress to address this and keep us, our
families and our communities safe.
Last week, I joined my colleagues in passing a bipartisan bill to bolster our
health care system and provide economic relief for all Americans.
This legislation will streamline and expedite the testing process to ensure
all who need a test will receive a test. It establishes paid sick leave to
encourage anyone who is ill to stay home. It expands unemployment insurance and
provides meals for children who depend on school breakfast and lunch programs.
This legislation comes only days after Congress passed an $8 billion emergency
funding package to ensure states and healthcare providers have the resources
they need during this critical time.
However, slowing the spread of COVID-19 is a group effort, and we all need to
do our part. Here are some tips to keep your community safe:
* Wash your hands often (for at least 20 seconds), and disinfect surfaces in
your home and workspace.
* Practice social distancing. Avoid crowded bars and restaurants and make
sure you stay at least 6 feet away from one another.
* If you can, work from home and avoid the office.
* Avoid touching your face.
* Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow if none is available.
* If you show symptoms of COVID-19 (dry cough, fever, or difficulty
breathing) make sure to stay home and call your doctorbefore your appointment.

Working together, we can prevent further spread of COVID-19 and keep the
country’s most vulnerable populations safe.
