[1]Justice Democrats
John,
As the end of the year and our fundraising deadline rapidly approach, I’m
reflecting on 2023 and what it meant for Justice Democrats. [ [link removed] ]This is a
long email, but I hope you’ll take a moment to read it and chip in to
support our critical work ahead in 2024.
2023 was a tough year in a multitude of ways.
Due to a massive fundraising slow-down, Justice Democrats found itself in
a dire financial situation earlier this year, which led to our incredibly
difficult decision to lay off nine of our twenty members of staff in July.
As an organization, we were certainly at a crossroads. But we reached out
for help from this grassroots movement, and people like you helped us
regain our footing by chipping in whatever you could. We’ll never forget
that.
Then, the horrible events beginning on October 7th took place in Israel
and Palestine, which set off months of violence and abhorrent human rights
abuses in Gaza. Israel’s right-wing government and military have
simultaneously bombed and starved millions of Palestinians, and are very
openly conducting ethnic cleansing and genocide before our very eyes. More
than 20,000 Palestinian lives have been taken, mostly women and children,
and millions more have been driven out of their homes and communities with
nowhere safe to go.
In light of this devastating violence and loss of life, our Squad of
progressives in Congress had the moral clarity and courage to be the first
to call for a ceasefire and release of all Israeli and Palestinian
hostages — and they were attacked for it.
Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian American member of Congress, was
formally censured in the House by her colleagues on both sides of the
aisle, simply for speaking up for Palestinians’ basic human rights. Cori
Bush, Ilhan Omar, Jamaal Bowman, Summer Lee, and others were verbally
attacked and ridiculed for their pro-peace stance, and AIPAC wasted no
time in launching attack ads against them and recruiting moderate
candidates to challenge them in the 2024 primaries as punishment.
But over these last few months, you stood by Justice Democrats and the
Squad, answering our calls for help and contributing what you could to
fuel our crucial work to fight back against our right-wing, corporate, and
establishment opponents.
The ceasefire movement has since grown stronger day by day, with the
majority of public opinion in support of a permanent ceasefire and
hundreds of thousands of people all over the world organizing protests and
marches to demand peace.
That is the power of this young, diverse, working-class movement we’ve
built together, and it’s exactly why we need to give it our all to keep it
alive in 2024 and beyond.
AIPAC has over $100,000,000 from millionaire and billionaire mega-donors
and right-wing Trump supporters who will spend anything to maintain the
status quo. Justice Democrats has you.
As we prepare for the tough primary fights ahead in 2024, we’re counting
on grassroots supporters like you to fuel our critical work to re-elect
our Squad incumbents and expand our bloc of bold progressives in Congress
— and time is running out.

I can’t thank you enough for your support and solidarity during this
difficult year. 2024 will no doubt be challenging, but together, we can
and must overcome.
Deeply grateful,
Alexandra Rojas
