Dear Friend,
After leaving her abusive relationship, Daisy was afraid of retaliation. She needed to protect herself and her children, but her situation felt precarious.
POV provides legal services free of charge to survivors of violence.
It takes a village.
|
|
Our legal services include ( but are not limited to):
- Immigration (VAWA, U-VISA, DACA, etc.)
- Family Law (divorce, custody, child support, etc.)
- Restraining/Protective Orders
Daisy’s abuser frequently used her undocumented status to control her, threatening to take their children and have her deported. Daisy was terrified, but POV’s legal team gave her peace of mind.
|
|
POV’s immigration team filed a confidential green card application for Daisy so that she could obtain legal permanent US residency and would no longer have to fear her abuser’s threats of deportation.
They also helped Daisy file for divorce and seek primary custody of her children.
Additionally, POV provides accompaniment for legal proceedings. When Daisy went to court to speak about her abuse, a POV Advocate was by her side. When Daisy wanted to file a restraining order against her abuser, POV’s legal team walked her through the process.
“The team at POV helped save my life. I felt trapped, scared, in over my head. POV went above and beyond and now I feel stronger and safer than I have in years. Gracias, POV.”
— Daisy
