Jaime was always smiling. She loved to dance, she loved the beach, and she loved her family. Jaime was only 14 when she was killed in the 2018 Parkland school shooting.

That day changed my life forever. It’s impossible to describe the heart wrenching grief that occurs when gun violence hits this close to home. Nothing can prepare you for that feeling.

One person who can relate is Rep. Lucy McBath. We are both members of the same movement that no one wants to be a part of: Parents who have lost their children too soon due to gun violence.

Lucy was one of the few people who reached out to Parkland parents in the aftermath of the 2018 massacre with absolutely no agenda. She offered comfort, guidance, and solace in that difficult time. Since then, I’ve relied on her countless times as a fellow advocate in the fight to end gun violence.

I’ve watched proudly as Lucy’s mission has taken her all the way to Congress. But now, Georgia Republicans are blatantly trying to remove her from her seat. They’ve redrawn the districts in a direct attack on Lucy, and she needs all the support she can get to win re-election in 2024.
