Dear John ,
We hope you're having a wonderful end of the year! We wanted to share words from our long time volunteer Abby about why she volunteers with Santa Fe Dreamers Project and why she chooses to give her time:
"I began volunteering with SFDP in 2016 and it has truly been an honor to work with the amazing staff who are deeply committed to the fight for immigrant rights. I have also been profoundly inspired by all of the clients, who have survived unimaginable atrocities to arrive in the U.S., where they then have to face extreme xenophobia and the inhumane immigration system that unjustly criminalizes them. I strongly believe that it is my duty as a U.S. citizen to fight for immigrants rights, particularly when they are forced to flee horrific conditions in their countries of origin that the U.S. has directly caused and continues to instigate through its colonialism, imperialism, and neoliberalism. In addition, this current climate catastrophe negatively affects the regions that have already been plundered by the U.S. the most, while the U.S. is responsible for the majority of the emissions per capita. Obviously, for the above reasons, vilifying immigrants is utterly absurd and unfair. Currently, the U.S. government is intensifying and doubling down on its cruel policies abroad, while Biden’s immigration policies are arguably more barbaric than Trump’s. Therefore, I adamantly believe that the work of SFDP is even more crucial than ever."
Thank you Abby and all our volunteers at SFDP 🤝
If you donate today, your generous contribution can make an immediate and lasting impact:
Provide Critical Legal Assistance: Last year, we served over 700 individuals with legal services. With your support, we hope to reach even more next year.
Community Outreach and Education: In addition to presenting community workshops, legal seminars, and know your rights presentations, we also hope to expand our Immigration Conversations series next year to keep creating spaces for learning and dialogue.
Advocacy for Change: We are proud to be formal members of the Dignity Not Detention Coalition, raising our voices in our community’s work against inhumane detention practices and conditions in New Mexico.
Your support goes beyond legal assistance; it sustains hope and uplifts dignity and belonging for all of our community members, regardless of immigration status. To make your tax-deductible donation and stand with us as we embark on another year of transformative impact.
Every dollar brings us closer to a more compassionate and inclusive community. Together, we will continue our shared work toward immigrant justice into the new year and beyond.
With gratitude and hope,
Santa Fe Dreamers Project
