Trans youth healthcare, South Carolina legislation, North Carolina work, and more.

John –

When you donate now to help Campaign for Southern Equality hit our $50K end-of-year fundraising goal, not only will your donation be matched on the spot – but you can rest assured that 100% of your donation will fuel our regional strategy to protect and support queer Southerners as we approach what will be a very challenging year.

We’re only $7,000 short of our $50K fundraising goal – can you pitch in $50 or more to help us get there? Every penny will be doubled by a generous donor. ([link removed])

When you donate to CSE, we can tell you exactly what your donation will make possible in 2024:
1. Ensuring transgender youth across the South can access the healthcare they need: 90% of all Southern trans youth now live in a state that restricts gender-affirming care. In 2023, we supported more than 300 families accessing care outside of their home state through the Southern Trans Youth Emergency Project, as well as more than 300 adults in Florida who faced restrictions to care. In 2024, we’ll keep supporting these families to continue traveling to get the care they need, and find ways to reach new families and transgender young people who are barred from receiving care in their states. A new cohort of young people will be aging into care and it’s critical that their families have the resources and support they need.
2. Blocking anti-LGBTQ legislation in South Carolina – which is one of the last states in the South where transgender youth can still access gender-affirming care. Extremist lawmakers have already introduced a ban on affirming care, and we’re proud to help lead the steering committee of the SC United for Justice & Equality coalition, committed to stopping these bills and protecting trans youth.
3. Pushing back on discrimination in North Carolina, where provisions of the recently passed “Don’t Say LGBTQ+” law take effect on January 1, and schools are already scrambling to respond. In 2024 a virulently anti-LGBTQ candidate – current Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson – could become the GOP candidate for governor. CSE has a plan to support students and educators who are facing this new law, and ensure that NC voters know what’s at stake in this election.
4. Combatting another wave of anti-LGBTQ bills in Southern state legislatures. Far-right lawmakers have already filed harmful bills in many states across the south – aiming to restrict healthcare access, attacking public displays of the Pride flag, and even bringing back anti-transgender bathroom bans. CSE is ready to do what it takes to stop these bills by ensuring that local leaders have the resources they need to fight back.

This is critical, life-saving work – and we know that if we can reach our $50K goal by Saturday’s midnight deadline, we’ll have the resources we need to hit the ground running in 2024.

This is your chance to help LGBTQ people across the South with a donation of $50 or more, that will be doubled on the spot – but only until Sunday at midnight! Pitch in now. ([link removed])

We wouldn’t keep asking if it wasn’t absolutely essential that we reach our goal this weekend. And we’re so grateful that we can count on you.

Thank you so much,
Rev. Jasmine Beach-Ferrara
