| We just received a disappointing ruling in our case to stop the largest oil development on federal lands in decades — the Willow project. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request to pause harmful ground operations while it decides our legal challenge to Willow. But let me be clear: This fight is not over. |
| Earthjustice’s legal challenge to overturn approval of Willow is still before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Court has put the case on a fast track, and we will argue it this February. If we succeed, ConocoPhillips’ massive Willow oil-drilling project will be sent back to the drawing board in a win for the climate and the Arctic. |

| Here is a brief recap of how we got to this point: |
| Early this year, Interior Department greenlit the Willow project, despite its unpopularity. Earthjustice attorneys responded immediately by filing a lawsuit. Through many setbacks and obstacles, our team continued working to use the best available legal tools to stop the project. |
| Unfortunately, last week the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied our motion for an injunction, which would have paused work on the project until our case is heard. Even with this setback, the story of Willow remains a testament to what we can achieve when we have the support of people like you. We are continuing to fight, and the Court will hear our arguments this February. Your support allows us to not only hire some of the best environmental attorneys in the world, but to take on these fights and see them through until the end. |
| In 2024, with your unwavering support, we will not just be fighting the Willow project — we will push back against oil and gas development all over the country. Here are just a few of the cases we will be able to continue working on with your support: |
- Challenging state permits for the CP2 liquefied “natural” gas export facility in Louisiana and urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy to reject the project.
- Petitioning the EPA to stop Texas and Louisiana from violating federal standards by unlawfully allowing more air pollution in already overburdened communities.
- Litigating to challenge federal approval of the Alaska LNG Project, which failed to fully assess its climate and environmental harms.
- Urging the Biden administration to postpone or deny all pending oil and gas export facilities.
