Food can be a powerful reminder of home. It could be a special holiday cookie recipe passed down for generations, a breakfast taco from the cart on the corner, or soup exactly the way your grandmother made it when you were sick.
For Valentyna, a refugee and mother of two from Ukraine, making varenyky provides a taste of home. The half-moon shaped dumplings remind her of her mother and grandmother, who also used to make them.
