The Hechinger Report
Dear Reader,

The Hechinger Report has been delivering balanced, high–quality and timely education reporting since 2010. We have 23 full–time staff who are committed to serving you and schools across the country (nine of whom have been here for over 10 years!)

Hear what some of our 10-year-plus veterans are up to:

Sarah Butrymowicz ([link removed]) joined in 2010 and is now the senior editor for investigations. She oversees and contributes to The Hechinger Report’s investigative and data work covering all levels of education, from early childhood and K-12 to higher education. “I write for Hechinger because there are so many education stories that deserve to be told!”

Salina Sanchez-Morroni has been here since the beginning and is now the associate director for finance and administration. As she reflected on her time at The Hechinger Report, Salina shared, “When we first cooked up the idea of being a non-profit news outlet dedicated exclusively to education, we didn’t know it would work. All we knew was that there was a gap between the decision makers and those impacted; and that we were uniquely positioned to close that gap. I’m proud to work at Hechinger because it has been over 10 years and we have not lost momentum.”

Jon Marcus ([link removed]) writes and edits stories about, and helps plan coverage of, higher education. In his new podcast with GBH News, Jon and reporter Kirk Carapezza pull back the ivy to show how colleges and universities really work. Their reporting provides information students and parents need before making one of life’s most expensive decisions - if and where to go to college.

Davin McHenry is the web editor, responsible for overseeing Hechinger's website and supporting technical innovations that enhance the site. He has worked at Hechinger since our founding in 2010. Before that, Davin worked at several newspapers in California, starting as a reporter and working his way up to web editor.

Sarah Carr ([link removed]) has reported and edited for Hechinger since 2011. Currently, she covers early childhood education and manages the eight-newsroom Education Reporting Collaborative. She has written for The Washington Post, The Atlantic and Slate, winning several national awards and is the author of “Hope Against Hope” (Bloomsbury, 2013), about New Orleans schools after Hurricane Katrina. She works for Hechinger because of its unparalleled support for in-depth work on education inequity that centers the voices of students and families.

---

I encourage you to show your support for the decade or more of dedication to nonprofit, education journalism demonstrated by Sarah B., Salina, Jon, Davin, and Sarah C. Your gift will make a difference and demonstrates the value of the work we do day in and day out to serve our community.
In gratitude,
Liz Willen
Editor in chief, The Hechinger Report (also a decade-plus veteran)
P.S. As our campaign winds down, we still have money to raise. Our goal is to welcome 25 new members ([link removed]) by the end of this week to unlock an additional $1,000 gift.
