Membership support in 2023 helped achieve key successes, such as: -
Launching a responsible Maine-based offshore wind industry. Team MCV played a key role in the collaborative effort to pass LD 1895, the bill that sets a procurement schedule for a goal of 3GW of installed offshore wind energy by 2040. With LD 1895, Maine will be on track to an equitable transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2040 in a way that benefits all Maine people.

Conserving endangered and threatened species habitat. LD 1246 modified the Natural Resource Protection Act to ensure that the Maine Department of Environmental Protection considers impacts to endangered and threatened species habitat during the permit review process of new development. MCV worked with our partners to pass LD 1246 to successfully protect the most vulnerable species in Maine.

Protecting voting rights for eligible voters. If passed, LD 1365 would have required voters to show a photo ID when voting, even though Maine law already requires proof of identification when registering to vote. LD 1365 was unnecessary and redundant, and would have made it harder for some Mainers to vote. MCV worked with our partners to successfully oppose this bill, and preserved the freedom to vote for all eligible Mainers through our already secure and accessible elections.
- Blocking the Fossil Fuel Protection Act. LD 894 would have prevented Maine towns from passing ordinances that reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. MCV partnered with municipalities and the Environmental Priorities Coalition to testify against LD 894, ultimately defeating the bill and paving the way for the electrification of heating and transportation in Maine.
