Nurses Fighting on the Frontlines of COVID-19
Since the spread of the new coronavirus, nurses have been called on to help those facing the COVID-19. One role has been to provide factual information to the public. Among news stories using nurses as experts is BBC World News, which interviewed Lisa Campbell, DNP, RN, PHNA-B, past chair of the American Public Health Associate Public Health Nursing Section.

Floridians To Have Greater Access to Primary Care
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on March 11 signed legislation that will allow qualified nurse practitioners in the state to provide health care services without physician oversight. The new law, effective July 1, provides a path for consumers to more directly receive primary care from advanced practice registered nurses.

Flexible Roles for Retiring Nurses Helps Patients—and Turnover Rate
In Fort Wayne, Indiana, many nurses who have retired in the last few years jumped at the opportunity to come back as emeritus nurses with flexible schedules and less physically demanding roles. Novice nurses appreciate the emeritus RNs, too, and the program has helped reduce the first-year turnover rate at Parkview Health.

N.C. Partners Will Put Campaign Health Equity Toolkit to Use
The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action’s health equity toolkit, introduced last fall, will soon be put into practice, reports a North Carolina business journal. North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Cone Health will join forces to use “Building Coalitions to Promote Health Equity: A Toolkit for Action.”

5 Pilot Communities Lay Out Health Equity Plans
A few years ago, the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) produced Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity, with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Now five different regions across the country that used the NAM’s key guidelines report back on how they tailored the plans to their community needs.

Participate in Testing the Board Engagement Survey
Calling all registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs): hTave you served for at least one year on a board of directors with fiduciary responsibilities? You may be eligible to participate in a study, approved by the University of Massachusetts Boston Institutional Review Board, to test an instrument aimed at measuring the engagement of nurses on boards. The Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program seeks applicants from the medical, nursing, and dentistry field who are from historically disadvantaged backgrounds (defined as individuals who face challenges because of their race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status).
