Happy Friday, I just got out of a meeting with my campaign team and wanted to share a few takeaways with you.
Where we stand: This Sunday is our last end-of-quarter deadline of the year. Right now we’re still very short of our 2,000-donor goal. If you can afford to chip in right now, here is the link [[link removed]] .
Why this goal matters: This end-of-year deadline is a big deal because we’re about to submit our next fundraising report to the FEC. If our fundraising numbers are low, it sends a flashing light to national Republicans and our GOP opponent that we’re in trouble. It also directly impacts some big budget decisions we have to make ahead of our March 5th election.
What decisions we need to make: One of our strategic advantages last cycle was how early we invested in grassroots organizing, especially latino outreach. It meant we spoke to voters early and often (and in-language). It's a big decision to spend money on organizing this early and I can't approve the money if we miss our fundraising goal.
Other considerations: Outside money is always a huge threat in this toss-up seat. We have to match the Republicans dollar for dollar in fundraising in order to combat their onslaught of ads. We’re expecting a barrage of attacks before the upcoming March election. If they spend $500,000 on attack ads against me, we have to spend $500,000 back. It’s that simple.
What I need from this team: Well, I need your help hitting our final end-of-quarter fundraising goal! If we hit the goal, I can approve the funding. I really believe in early organizing, but I can't do it if the money's not there.
