Dear John,

In recent days, many of you have reached out to express your support and concern about how we're responding to COVID-19.

The driving goal of our mission at The Trust for Public Land is to create healthy, livable communities, and the health and wellness of our volunteers, partners, staff, and the communities we serve is our top priority. As such, to do our part to limit transmission of the virus, our staff across the country are telecommuting. We're following the fast-moving developments closely, and will continue to assess our operations and readjust as conditions require.

As the nation grapples with the impacts of this stressful and challenging time, it's clear that parks and trails are going to be crucial for people to find calm, exercise, and fresh air. While social distancing is required to flatten the pandemic curve, public health experts also recognize that total social isolation can lead to a host of negative mental and physical effects.

Wherever you live, we urge you to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and state and local health authorities before getting outside. And if you're fortunate enough to have a safe space to venture into nature nearby, consider that far too many communities--more than 100 million people, including 28 million kids--don't have a park within a 10-minute walk of home.

In the weeks and months to come, our nation's parks, trails, and outdoor spaces will be integral to coping and recovery. Great parks and green spaces make stronger communities, and every child, every family, deserves access to the outdoors and the countless benefits parks provide.

Our commitment to you is that Trust for Public Land staff, volunteers, partners, and the extraordinary communities we serve are working harder than ever to rise to the challenge of this unprecedented moment, and to bring parks and green spaces to the communities that need them most. We deeply appreciate your continued support to ensure everyone has access to great outdoor experiences.

Wishing you well,

Diane
