2023 is the hottest year in recorded history, Friend.
Throughout the year, record-breaking temperatures previewed what will become our new normal if gas & oil extraction and climate-heating pollution continues.
It doesn’t have to be this way, Friend. The new normal for our communities should be thriving neighborhoods where everyone has a home, a good job, and clean air – not orange skies and illness.
Going into the new year, we’re filled with hope and determination to achieve this vision by passing bold, new legislation that will build more housing, reduce climate-heating pollution, and create great union jobs.
A livable New York is winnable, and we need your help to get there. A fully-funded campaign will make a huge difference in our ability to organize and take direct action. Will you make your first donation to NYCC to jumpstart our 2024 Livable New York campaign?
Our communities are already way too familiar with the impacts of climate chaos. This past June, Canadian wildfire smoke blanketed New York’s skyline with dangerous particulate matter, and NYC saw a serious increase in people with asthma-related symptoms.
Places like the Bronx, where children have some of the highest rates of asthma in the country, saw the most dramatic spikes in asthma-related hospital visits. Wildfire smoke, caused by record-setting heat conditions, may become the norm for all New Yorkers while harming Black and Brown communities even more.
We’re not going to let this become our new reality – we still have time to turn things around and achieve a more just New York, but we have to take swift action to do it. We have to push Gov. Hochul and our representatives to pass this transformative legislation, and we can with your help.
Can you make your first donation to NYCC to help fully fund our Livable New York campaign in 2024?
We’re grateful for your support in this movement, and together we’ll create a more livable New York for all next year.
In solidarity,
The NYCC team
