2023 Year in Review
I'm eager to start the new year and continue working on the issues most important to you and your family. We have made some progress this year, but we still have a long way to go. In 2024, I will remain focused on working to help get government spending under control, fix the border crisis, strengthen our national security, unleash American energy, serve our veterans and their families, and protect seniors. As we look back on 2023, here’s an overview of what we were able to accomplish:
Serving Wisconsin Families
My team and I remain committed to assist you and your family. From hearing your concerns about various federal proposals to helping you navigate a federal agency, and everything in between.
If there is anything I or my team can do to assist you and your family, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Getting Government Spending Under Control
Over the course of this year, deficit spending increased by $320 billion. Inflation has increased 17% over three years, driving up costs for families.
I supported the Fiscal Responsibility Act (H.R. 3746), which implemented reasonable, responsible, and sensible reforms that saved taxpayers $2.1 trillion, capped federal spending, and protected Social Security, Medicare, and veteran programs. This legislation was signed into law.
Fixing the Border Crisis
There is a drug and human trafficking crisis that we cannot continue to ignore, and strong border security legislation is the only way to solve it.
I am working to pass the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2) to strengthen border patrol, deploy new technologies to prevent illegal entries, restart border wall construction, help prevent illicit fentanyl from coming into our communities, and strengthen our national security.
National Security
The world is a dangerous place with threats from Communist China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. Maintaining a strong military allows the U.S. to negotiate from a position of strength. The terrorist attacks against Israel are a reminder of the evil in the world.
I supported the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to ensure our military readiness and increase pay for our troops. This legislation was signed into law. I also lead the effort to pass the End Financing for Hamas and State Sponsors of Terrorism Act (H.R. 6632) to allow the U.S. to use every financial tool in our box to deny funding to terrorists.
Unleashing American Energy
Energy costs are driving inflation higher. Strengthening our U.S. energy supply is good for jobs, family budgets, and national security.
This year, I promoted commonsense policies aimed at lowering costs. I supported the Lower Energy Costs Act (H.R.1) to increase domestic energy production, reform the permitting process, streamline energy infrastructure, and boost the production of critical minerals.
Honoring Veterans and Their Families
We owe a debt of gratitude to our veterans and their families. Congress must keep its promise to honor their service and sacrifice.
I voted to protect funding for veterans in the Fiscal Responsibility Act. I also cosponsored the Expanding Veterans' Options for Long Term Care Act (H.R. 1815) to create a program for eligible veterans to receive assisted living care paid for by the VA. I also introduced the Survivor Benefits Fairness Act (H.R. 1609) to safeguard the families of beneficiaries from having to pay back benefits in the event of a surviving spouse's death.
Protecting Seniors
Reckless government spending threatens Social Security and Medicare, two programs our seniors depend on. Congress must protect these programs.
I voted to protect Social Security and Medicare in H.R. 3746. I also introduced the Protecting Americans' Retirement Savings from Politics Act (H.R. 4767) to ensure pension and retirement funds are managed with a focus on smart financial planning, not political agendas. Additionally, I helped pass the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act (H.R. 5378) to force transparency on medical pricing.
