Responding to the news of the Maine Secretary-of-State removing former President Donald Trump from the ballot in the state of Maine, NH Republican Congressional Candidate, District 2, Lily Tang Williams, said:
“I never thought after I escaped Communist/Fascist China, I would ever see the judicial system in my new chosen country weaponized for political persecution. Regardless of how one personally feels about our former president, Donald Trump, he is entitled to what forms the bedrock of the United States judicial system; that is, the presumption of innocence.
Ironically, the insurrection clause that both Colorado and Maine have used to bar him from running for elected office – the 14th amendment – is one of three amendments (5th, 6th, and 14th) that collectively form a fair-trial notion not found in all civilized countries: innocent until proven guilty. Many countries operate from guilty until proven innocent. There’s even more irony here: Not only has Donald Trump not been found guilty of insurrection, Special Counsel Jack Smith did not even seek indictment of the former president for insurrection.
If this weren’t bad enough, there’s still more: The Democrats have been saying for years that Trump is trying to do away with democracy itself. And yet they attempted not once, but twice, to have him impeached so that he could no longer be able to ever run for president again. And now, they’re attempting to have him removed from as many states’ ballots as they can.
As honest Abe reminded us at Gettysburg in 1863, our government is ‘of the people, by the people, and for the people.’ Accordingly, the people should decide if Trump should be our next president, not the courts, nor secretaries of state. The Biden Administration and his party are the real threats to our Republic and it's representative democracy.”
