Our world is changing dramatically all around us. Here in Kentucky, we have over two dozen confirmed cases of COVID-19, and as of yesterday, our first fatality. I’m sending my deepest sympathies to the family and holding everyone affected in my thoughts and prayers.
The spread of the virus has upended business, travel and everyday life for all of us. And it goes without saying that it's changed how we're running this campaign for the time being.
With no clear timeline on how long the impact will continue, it’s natural to feel anxious, especially if you have loved ones who are elderly or whose health is compromised. For those of us who are healthy and unencumbered, it’s a time to prioritize the most vulnerable in our thoughts and actions.
The good news is, we can dramatically slow and even halt the spread of COVID-19 if we commit collectively to taking important precautionary steps:
- Embrace quality time at home. Stay in and avoid social interaction as much as possible in order to flatten the curve and curb the exponential growth of infection.
- Shop responsibly. There’s no need to hoard food or supplies. If we all stock up on exactly what we need, everyone can get what they need.
- Wash your hands often and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds. Find a song chorus that lasts that long if it helps you!
- If you feel yourself showing symptoms of COVID-19 (dry cough, fever, trouble breathing), contact your local KY health department:

These are challenging times, and I do want to say to Governor Beshear, the hardworking leaders at the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, all the nurses, doctors, EMTs, health care professionals and first responders, and to everyone who understands what it’s like to be on duty when your nation and your community calls: thank you.
Stay safe out there team, and let’s do all we can to keep our neighbors and communities safe. We’re all in this together, even if we can’t be together.
