You know that justice-centered courts are vital to protecting our democracy. In 2023, with your support, we reached our goal of confirming 13 “phenominees” - judges that were waiting on the sidelines, their nominations languishing for MONTHS — some for over a year! - to their rightful spot on the federal bench. Movement lawyers Nusrat Choudhury and Natasha Merle, as examples, were nominated in January 2022 and were, at last, seated in the spring of this year. This pivot towards inclusive justice happened because of supporters like YOU!

AFJ is also thrilled to report that more than one in four of Biden's confirmed judges engaged with our Building the Bench program – (our program that identifies and advocates for the nomination and confirmation of diverse judges) and with your support today, we can add to that number. These lawyers represent the diverse backgrounds that our democracy desperately needs represented on the bench.
