John,
You’ve probably seen us put on hazmat suits to call out representatives ‘contaminated’ by greedy interests.
We all have other contamination to worry about these days, but don’t forget - the only reason things are as bad as they are is because of the shameful levels of corruption in our government.
We’re facing an unprecedented national emergency, but while regular Americans get sick and lose their jobs, Trump and Republicans in Congress are concentrating on bailing out Wall Street, Big Polluters, and corporate interests.
Millions of Americans are at risk of losing everything. They don’t have time to wait for Congress to get around to helping working people once the corporations are taken care of.
The coronavirus crisis is demonstrating day-by-day, minute-by-minute, the complete corruption of Trump and the GOP.
Instead of bailing out regular Americans, Trump supported a $1.5 trillion Wall Street intervention.
Then he committed to a $2.6 billion package for big oil companies, pledging to buy millions of barrels to stabilize prices.
In Congress, the House sent the emergency coronavirus relief bill to Mitch McConnell’s desk at the end of last week. But Moscow Mitch responded by going on a three-day vacation.
Since returning yesterday, McConnell has STILL not called a vote on the bill!
The bill passed in the House is not a final measure, but it addresses some of the most pressing concerns for regular people.
It provides for paid sick leave for millions of Americans, so workers don’t feel pressured to go to work sick - though, even this portion is watered down due to Congressional Republicans demanding millions of workers be left out. It provides for unemployment insurance, increased Medicaid funding for states to expand access to care, and most importantly free coronavirus testing for anyone who needs it, including those without insurance.
Here’s the point: Regular Americans need assistance now, so they’re not under pressure to go to work if they feel sick. They need to be able to get tests if they feel sick. We need to do more, but waiting to pass this bill next week will be too late.
Thank you for all you do,
The HAZMAT America Team
