Despite calling for state-wide social distancing due to the more than 100 cases of Coronavirus reported in Illinois, officials there have decided to move forward with today’s primary elections.
We have no idea what lies ahead as we watch for results for our three Illinois candidates. We’ve seen reports of low voter turnout, understaffed polling locations, and polling stations spontaneously closing.
One thing is clear, state officials and party leaders MUST be proactive in taking steps to ensure that every American who wants to cast a vote has a safe way to do so.
As we navigate through this pandemic, we are faced with finding innovative ways to reach voters, stay prepared and even be ready to push our officials to do the right thing.
We are bringing BNC candidates together to brainstorm ideas. And we are reaching out to professionals to create innovative ways to navigate this unprecedented crisis. That’s why we’ll be releasing a guide this week to help campaigns prepare. Our organization and every candidate will need to adjust the way they campaign, whether it’s restructuring outreach, extending campaigns, or acquiring new tools to reach voters.
