There are just two days left in the year, and it’s got me thinking about everything we’ve accomplished together as a people-powered movement in 2023. So, I wanted to put together a year-end review to reflect on the work we’ve done.
Before I get into the highlights, I need to ask: can you chip in $5 or any amount you can afford to help our campaign reach our end-of-year fundraising goal before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve?
As California’s Attorney General, my job is to serve as the people’s attorney — fighting for justice and standing up for the rights of Californians and people everywhere.
Here are just some of the many things we accomplished together in my second year as your AG:
- Opposed dangerous abortion bans and other extreme restrictions to reproductive freedom, including suing crisis pregnancy centers and maintaining California as a safe haven for reproductive healthcare;
- Released the first report from the California Department of Justice’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention and fought for states’ ability to protect their communities from the gun violence epidemic with commonsense reforms like red flag laws and bans on high-capacity magazines;
- Filed a historic lawsuit against Big Oil on behalf of the state of California for their decades of pollution and public deception around climate change;
- Defended transgender students and the LGBTQ+ community from attacks against their basic rights and well-being here in California and GOP states like Idaho and Florida;
- Called on massive corporate polluters to pay more for poisoning our drinking water with PFAS, also known as toxic “forever chemicals;”
- Sued Meta for knowingly getting kids and youth addicted to their social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and allowing harmful content to hurt their physical and mental health;
- Took on bad actors like Big Pharma and Big Tobacco as well as corporations like JetBlue and Spirit airlines, SoCalGas, and more for harming consumers;
- Banned junk fees across the state to cut costs and make sure every Californian knows exactly what they’re paying when they order food delivery, concert tickets, and more;
- Took action to ensure California’s cities provide their fair share of affordable housing so that everyone can have a place to call home;
- Stood in solidarity with labor unions on strike for better pay and working conditions, and stood up for former Saks workers hurt by no-hire agreements;
- Supported federal legislation to better protect veterans from financial exploitation and ensure all veterans get the educational benefits they deserve.
Of course, this is just a summary: this would be a very long email if I listed everything we achieved in the last twelve months!
The point is, none of this would have been possible without the support of people like you. But our work is just getting started.
