Statement on the Coronavirus and Republican Party of Orange County Operations

ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Hon. Fred M. Whitaker, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, released the following statement on the Coronavirus and the Republican Party of Orange County operations:

"President Trump declared a national state of emergency due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Subsequently the Center for Disease Control released federal guidelines against meetings and gatherings of more than 50 people effective for the next 8 weeks. This was followed by a recommendation against gathering in groups larger than 10 people for 15 days.

As Chairman I take the health and safety of our members, volunteers, staff and Orange County residents with the upmost importance. The Trump administration's task force has made it clear the key to defeating this virus is to stop the spread which means limiting person to person interactions for the time being.

The Republican Party of Orange County is taking the following important steps to minimize the potential for exposure until further federal, state and local guidance permits us to return to our regular operations.

The March Central Committee meeting took place via conference call yesterday evening. There will be no in person Central Committee meetings until the CDC has advised it is safe for groups of 50 or more to gather meaning the April 20th Central Committee meeting will be via conference call as well.

The Republican Elected Officials Awards Reception scheduled for Thursday, April 23rd is postponed until further notice. If you have purchased tickets to this event staff will be reaching out to you shortly to discuss your payment.

All Republican groups, organizations and campaigns should adhere to federal guidelines and cancel any meetings or events larger than 50 people for the next 8 weeks.

Our office will continue to operate on regular business hours but to limit unnecessary person to person contact the public should contact our office by phone or email. An in person meeting or office visit should be scheduled by contacting our Executive Director Randall Avila at [email protected] or (714) 453-0900. Almost all requests can be handled by phone or email.

We are working with our partners at the California Republican Party and all campaigns on how to continue volunteer opportunities and voter contact in a safe and effective manner. This past weekend we held a successful Trump Victory Leadership Initiative training online. We will continue to utilize technology and innovation to accomplish our purpose as a political organization: elect Republicans in Orange County. We are finalizing those details and will be announcing those opportunities soon.

We thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this time. We will overcome this virus and keep Orange County healthy only if we all as individuals and organizations do our part to stop the spread and help contain the Coronavirus. Regardless of party affiliation this is a time for us as Americans and Orange County residents to come together and defeat our common enemy. We are stronger than this virus. I look forward to being able to see all of you in person again soon."
