Dear, John --
The spread of COVID-19 has caused a public health crisis, but it’s also putting an economic strain on millions of working families and elderly citizens who are now struggling to afford basics like food, toilet paper, and sanitizers to hold them over during this state of emergency.
In many households, children are at home from school and no longer able to receive free meals for breakfast and lunch. That’s adding even more financial strain on parents who may be out of work during this crisis. It’s happening to tens of thousands of our friends and neighbors right here in San Diego County.
Yesterday, we spoke with leadership at San Diego Food Bank, and they made it clear they are seeing increased need and only expect the demand to rise in the coming weeks. Our support is needed now more than ever:
Families in our community need immediate relief, so I’m hoping you will join me in making a one-time contribution to the San Diego Food Bank. >> [link removed]
The good news is that Congress and local governments are unifying and working on measures to address the economic fallout caused by COVID-19 -- including by offering guaranteed paid sick leave and other relief packages. But we cannot wait for this legislation to pass to support those in need.
I understand that times are uncertain, but we must step up and seize this opportunity to come together and uplift our fellow citizens during this difficult time.
Please pitch in $10 or more to the San Diego Food Bank to help deliver essential items to families in need during this crisis. >> [link removed]
Thank you,
Mike
