Here’s a basic reality — you either recognize the existential threat that this climate crisis poses to our planet, or you don’t.
That’s why we need a climate debate during the Democratic primary, because this crisis deserves the center stage. Yesterday, I joined activists with the Sunrise Movement during their protest at the DNC. Many of these young kids are the same people who’s advocacy helped catapult the Green New Deal to the national stage.
With a little over a decade to revamp our economy and save this planet, we need to treat this crisis with the urgency it deserves. As a cosponsor of the Green New Deal legislation, I’m dedicated to that cause.
This is a critically important discussion to have, not only because it can ensure a livable planet for future generations, but because it presents an incredible economic opportunity for us all.
This is a moment of crisis, and it’s a moment of great opportunity, if we choose to take bold progressive action. And that plan starts with a national conversation on this climate crisis — and a debate on climate change is an important part of that conversation.
