Last night, Donald Trump was barred from the ballot in Maine under Section Three of the 14th Amendment.

That makes Maine the second state to do so following our win last week when the Colorado Supreme Court barred Trump from the Colorado ballot. This decision in Maine reaffirms Trump’s disqualification and makes clear that there is no question that Trump’s incitement of insurrection means he cannot hold office or appear on ballots in many states.

We will respond to his appeal soon and will ask the Court to move quickly to give voters the answers they need. What happens next is up to the Supreme Court. What we do know is that the legal battle that’s coming up is going to be one of the most impactful in American history, and it’s going to take significant resources.

CREW provided an affidavit about court records from the trial in Colorado to disqualify Trump earlier this year, and those records figured prominently in the Maine decision.

In response, we asked the Court to move quickly to resolve their challenge (and any that Trump files) and give voters the answers they need before casting their primary ballots.

What happens next is up to the Supreme Court. What we do know is that the legal battle that’s coming up is going to be one of the most impactful in American history, and it’s going to take significant resources.

Whether the next step is defending our win before the highest court in the land—against a former president of the United States—or taking our 14th Amendment efforts to other states, we need all the help we can get in our effort to bar Trump from ballots across the country.
