Friends,
I am closely monitoring the ongoing developments in the coronavirus pandemic both in South Jersey and around the globe. I'm also working closely with federal, state, and local officials and health care organizations to ensure they have all the information and resources necessary to protect our communities.
We in Congress have approved more than $8 billion in emergency funding to support a coordinated response to the coronavirus, advance research efforts, and protect our health and safety. This weekend, we took additional action to ensure that anyone who needs a test will have access at no cost, and provide food security and economic relief for working families during this time.
I urge people to take common-sense measures to help prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses -- here’s what the CDC suggests:
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue;
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
- If soap and water aren't available, you can substitute with hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol;
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth;
- Stay home when you are sick;
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick; and
- Use a regular household cleaning spray or wipe to clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
If you think you may have contracted COVID-19 or have any questions, please call the 24/7 New Jersey Coronavirus Hotline at 1-800-222-1222. If you are using an out-of-state phone line, you can call 1-800-962-1253.
