Wishing everyone a Healthy and Happy New Year! Let's make 2024 the year we redouble our efforts to provide affordable housing, healthcare, reproductive justice, inclusivity and equal rights for all!
Quick Look Back
The 2023 Wyoming legislative session was dominated by extremists, resulting in bills that restrict crossover voting (further details to come), that ban most abortion access, and that prevent trans kids from participating in high school sports. Despite our state ranking 49th in healthcare affordability, attempts to expand Medicaid access once again failed. One bright note - thanks to the hard work of Rep. Liz Storer (HD 23) and the support of Rep. Mike Yin (HD 16) - bills were passed to temporarily ease property taxes.

Locally, the Jackson Town Council and Teton County Commission meetings remain dominated by concerns over the lack of affordable housing and rising real estate taxes. Water quality concerns persist, as well as controversies around the Board of Land Commissioner's decision to allow Basecamp's glamping resort to continue despite septic system concerns. Also, discussions revolved around the proposed Kelly parcel auction, now deferred until 2024.

What's in Store
The 2024 Budget Session begins on February 12th and is in session for 20 business days. Except for the budget bill, all other bills will require a two-thirds vote from either the Senate or the House for introduction on the floor. It's expected that this 67th Legislative Session will be once again focused on issues regarding maternal health, abortion and property taxes. Proposed bills can be seen here: Legislation 2024 ([link removed]) . The list will be updated as new bills are proposed.

Here are a few we will be following closely:

** HB0004 -Property tax refund program ([link removed])
HJ0001 - Property tax-classes of property and residential value ([link removed])
SF0009 -Parental rights in education ([link removed])
