Dear John,
As we say goodbye to 2023, I want you to know how grateful I am for all you helped us accomplish this year …
Thanks to your support, the National Committee helped thwart numerous attacks on Social Security and Medicare, took to the airwaves and print media to raise the alarm on efforts to radically “reform” seniors’ programs, offered testimony before lawmakers on the threat posed by “debt commissions” to earned benefits, and helped set the record straight on the status of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds, neither of which are going bankrupt as some lawmakers falsely claim.
But as I look ahead to the new year, I’m gravely concerned about the future of Americans’ retirement and health security. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is determined to create a commission tasked with finding spending cuts to Social Security and Medicare. For years, we’ve helped stave off the creation of a congressional commission that could recommend devastating benefit cuts, but I’m concerned Speaker Johnson will manage to ram through this dangerous proposal in the weeks ahead.
GOP hardliners have made it clear they have no problem going after seniors’ earned benefits during an election year, even as millions of older Americans continue to struggle to afford the high cost of many of the goods and services they rely on.
Your donation will help us mobilize our grassroots army of concerned citizens and our advocacy and media relations staff to go to battle against the powerful insurance and drug industry lobbyists and Wall Street brokers who want nothing more than for the little guy to work harder and longer, pay more and get less … so they can protect their fortunes.
Every donation helps us get closer to our end-of-year $50,000 goal — SO PLEASE MAKE A GIFT RIGHT NOW. We have so much hanging in the balance in 2024 — your support will help ensure we’re prepared to hit the ground running as soon as the new Congress convenes on January 8!
On behalf of all us here at the National Committee thank you for your continued support and generosity.
Best wishes for a healthy and happy New Year,
