Friend, As 2023 comes to an end, we’ve been looking back at everything Michael has accomplished this year. Here are some of the highlights: |
-
In May, Michael reintroduced the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act (the CORE Act), which would protect over 420,000 acres of public land in our state. This bill would strengthen Colorado’s economy, create new opportunities for outdoor recreation, and protect wild spaces for generations to come. This month, it cleared a key Senate hurdle, bringing it one step closer to becoming law.
-
Colorado’s population has grown rapidly in recent years — but the federal court system has failed to keep up. This year, Michael introduced legislation to expand the number of district court judges in Colorado. He’s also continued to nominate and vote for a diverse slate of judges, making sure our federal benches reflect Colorado.
-
Michael pushed for common-sense gun safety laws this year. The GOSAFE Act would support responsible gun ownership, get weapons of war off our streets, and protect our communities from senseless gun violence. Fox News and the NRA attacked him over it, but this didn’t deter Michael.
-
In 2023, artificial intelligence exploded onto the tech scene. Michael was at the forefront of the fight to ensure AI and social media are regulated safely and democratically. His bills would make Congress better equipped to oversee Big Tech, protect kids and consumers, and ensure that these technologies don’t violate our fundamental rights.
-
One of the issues Michael is most passionate about is childhood poverty. He reintroduced the 2023 Working Families Tax Relief Act to restore the expanded Child Tax Credit, which cut childhood poverty nearly in half in 2021 and benefited ninety percent of kids in Colorado.
-
When he wasn’t in DC fighting for reproductive rights, public lands, gun safety, and more, Michael was traveling around Colorado. We live in a big, beautiful state, and Michael made sure he visited all four corners — and had a chance to connect with Coloradans from the Western Slope, the Eastern Plains, and the Front Range.
