Dear John,

The Trump administration has been considering another round of corporate tax cuts, tax cuts targeted to the airlines and hospitality industries, and a temporary payroll tax cut to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Here’s the thing: a global outbreak doesn’t respond to trickle-down economics.

Tax cuts will be absolutely useless. They’ll be too slow to stimulate the economy, and won’t reach households and consumers who should be the real targets. They don’t get money into the hands of people who need it.

Thankfully, Congress has moved forward on some of the most urgent priorities like free coronavirus testing, strengthening unemployment insurance, and food security programs.

But it doesn’t go nearly far enough.

Congress must immediately provide an emergency $500 billion to help all Americans protect themselves and their families, and keep the economy going.

Our latest video breaks down the crucial reforms that were left out of the House bill. ([link removed])

This bill, while a step in the right direction, is nowhere near as comprehensive as it needs to be to combat the ongoing pandemic and prevent the looming economic recession.

Each of us is only as healthy as the least healthy among us. That’s why it’s imperative we demand action from our lawmakers.

Contact the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to be connected with your representatives and urge them to add these real, comprehensive reforms that will keep all of us protected:
* Guaranteed paid sick leave for ALL employees
* Extended Medicaid
* Immediate one-time payments of $1,500 to every adult and $500 to every child
* Suspension of the Trump administration’s “public charge” rule that enables federal officials to deny green cards to immigrants who use social safety net programs

The coronavirus doesn’t distinguish between rich and poor.

We are in this imminent health and economic emergency together, and our own health and wellbeing are dependent on the health and wellbeing of everyone else.

One last note: In these uncertain and perilous times, make sure you check in on your loved ones and please stay safe.

Thanks for watching,
Robert Reich

P.S. While you have your member of Congress on the line, demand they pass emergency funding to support nationwide vote-by-mail. It's unconscionable that people have to choose between putting themselves and others at risk or participating in our democracy.
