The Wisconsin Grassroots Festival set for this coming Saturday had to be cancelled to limit the spread of the coronavirus, but plans have been put together quickly to have a Virtual Festivalstarting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with speakers making presentations online using the interactive teleconferencing system Zoom. I will be one of the speakers.
The festing won't be the same as when we've been able to gather together, but we are going to make the best of it.
In the days to come, instructions for how to join the Virtual Festival will be posted on the event's website.
Even as we practice social distancing and self quarantining for however long we must, I hope to see you Saturday from the safety of our respective computer screens.
As precautions galore are being taken to safeguard public health, I was lined up to be on Central Time on Wisconsin Public Radio on Monday talking about the dangers of playing it safe politically. The interview ended up being preempted by coverage of a White House briefing on the coronavirus outbreak. It has been rescheduled for this Thursday the 19th from 4 to 4:30 p.m. You can listen live on The Ideas Network.
The right-wing school privatization group American Federation for Children started years ago by the Trump Administration's education secretary Betsy DeVos is sticking its nose in the election for Milwaukee County executive, spending tens of thousands of dollars to smear candidate Chris Larson, who has earned Our Wisconsin Revolution's endorsement.
If you live in Milwaukee County, or if you are concerned about the political agenda of national forces pushing taxpayer-subsidized private schooling no matter where you live, you should be alarmed by this outside meddling in a local election in Wisconsin's biggest metropolitan area. Alarmed enough to check out the candidate DeVos's group is so desperate to defeat and, better yet, lend a hand to his campaign.
