Dear Arlingtonians,

As we continue to respond to COVID 19, the Governor spoke this morning to emphasize the need to make sure you do not eat in at bars and restaurants and minimize social contact. Click below to view the video.

The Governor also emphasized the need to follow the no more than 10 person congregating limit that the CDC put forward. We all must do that.

Governor Northam's 12 minute update on COVID 19 Response in Virginia
Here in Arlington, we are taking additional steps, including cancelling our budget work session for this afternoon, among other steps we are taking, to respond for your safety. Events are occurring quickly, so please go to our COVID 19 website below to learn the latest:

To be clear, we have wanted the Governor to act legally to require closing of bars and restaurants, as opposed to merely saying don't go to them to eat in, for at least 36 hours. Arlington County is obtaining voluntary compliance as people and businesses are acting and working to get this done, but we need that extra legal requirement, so please click on and sign the petition below.

Big picture, the actions we need from you and each of us are the same today. Do not go to a St. Patrick's Day gathering. Stay away from others to avoid getting the virus.

Thank you for listening and working to get as smart as you can on this as quickly as possible, while staying home as much as possible. We can work individually and together in spirit to minimize infections and keep ourselves and each other safe and healthy.

Thank you,

Matt

PS. Many of you are thinking about what you can do to volunteer or for small businesses. I have mentioned donating to AFAC and other efforts, but there needs to be other options. Go to these two links to think about how you can safely consider how to help with that: [link removed] and [link removed]
