Like me, I know you care deeply about the state of democracy in Central America . 2023 was not an easy year for democratic governance in the region, which, make no mistake, always leaves human rights at risk. Sometimes even, human lives hang in the balance. 2024 will likely be more of the same. But we’re committed to the fight. Are you?

We know that in times like these, the human rights movement is strengthened by the increased participation of those who believe in justice and the rule of law. Everyday people like you and me.
Guatemala is grappling with persistent corruption and a recently contested election , which exacerbates the threats to democracy and creates an urgent need for international support to strengthen democratic institutions.
In El Salvador, increasing authoritarian tendencies by the country’s leadership have raised concerns about the concentration of power and the potential erosion of civil liberties. It is imperative to address these issues to protect the rights of the Salvadoran people.
Nicaragua’s dictatorship suppresses dissent and has left millions without the right to free speech.
But we believe there is hope and that if we raise our collective voice and put in the work, steps toward a strengthened democracy are possible. Your support of WOLA directly contributes to our efforts to monitor the rise of authoritarianism and speak out immediately against it.
