You have heard from Mary Theroux about Beyond Homeless and our success in advancing a “markets and morals” approach to the homelessness and housing crisis affecting cities across the country. Our approach is resonating with key leaders across the political spectrum.
And you have heard from my (brand new) colleague, Phil Magness, who is joining us as the David J. Theroux Chair in Political Economy.
Phil is a best-in-class free market scholar, and I have been especially impressed by his ability to shift public conversations. In addressing issues as varied as COVID masking, the 1619 Project, and income inequality—Phil’s commentary has consistently pointed out that media and policy narratives were unmoored from even consensus findings in the physical and social sciences.
In short, Phil has successfully articulated the need for policy decisions to be rooted in facts—on a solid evidentiary basis—instead of “political correctness.” Indeed, this commitment anchors everything we do at the Independent Institute.
The addition of Phil and the momentum of Beyond Homeless are just two of the many reasons why I am excited for the work ahead in 2024.
Others include: our timely upcoming book The New American Anti-Semitism and a deep bench of other impactful scholarship, our Independent Truths with Dr. Scott Atlas podcast, and an expanding young audience resonating with our award-winning Love Gov video series.
The challenges ahead are daunting indeed, but with great friends at my side—research fellows, staff, generous donors, subscribers, and you—I am confident that we will make tangible and lasting contributions to liberty in the new year, as we did in 2023.
As we near closer to the end of the calendar year, we hope you will join in supporting our efforts to advance truth, freedom, prosperity, and human dignity!
Please consider making a donation before the end of the year to qualify for a charitable tax deduction for 2023.
Thank you for your kind consideration.
