Medical debt (unpaid health insurance bills) is a crisis that can no longer be ignored. An estimated 100 million Americans have medical debt, disproportionately affecting communities of color, parents with children under 18, and women.

And while Americans choose to buy a house, own a car or take out student loans, medical debt is a form of debt that happens to us—when we go to the emergency room, face unexpected surgery or other hospital costs.

Medical debt doesn't just wipe out savings–it destroys credit scores, leading to higher costs for necessities like housing and transportation, and traps families in a cycle of debt and poverty. We should be moving towards a system where health care is a right, not a privilege, thereby ensuring that no individual is burdened by debt due to essential needs.

Sign the petition: Health care is a right. No more crushing medical debt.
