2024 is shaping up to be an exciting YEAR OF FIRSTS for athletes with intellectual disabilities (ID), which is why we’re raising as much as we can to support them. An athlete’s “first” with Special Olympics can be a first victory on the field, first gold medal finish, first sports-based friendship, or even first goal met. 

That’s how Amelia, from Special Olympics Colorado, started her stellar swimming career. She was just learning how to swim when a Special Olympics swim team caught her attention. She found out that if she could swim 25 meters, she could join the team. The following year, Amelia met this FIRST goal and made it onto the team of her dreams!
