Jack, as I mention in the email below, it's been a really rough year for Daily Kos—probably the most difficult financial year in our twenty year history.
At the beginning of 2023, we knew that we could no longer rely on advertising revenue as much as we had in past years. Unfortunately, we overestimated just how much we could rely on ad revenue throughout the year. In order to offset our budget deficits, we raised our monthly fundraising goal pretty much every single month of the year.
In other words, Daily Kos survived this difficult year because of grassroots donations. In fact, those donations of just a few dollars at a time really add up—they now account for 60% of Daily Kos' overall income to cover our operating expenses.
Before we close out the year, we need to raise another $11,261. Please support Daily Kos and the work we do day in and day out with a donation of $5 or more right now.

Jack, in Daily Kos's twenty-plus year history, 2023 will stand out as our most financially difficult year.
At the beginning of the year we faced some hard choices. We were forced to make budget cuts and other changes in hopes that we could move forward on a more financially sustainable path.
Unfortunately, throughout the year, advertising revenue continued to decline, often missing forecasted projections. We are surviving rough times because of lower than projected expenses and, most importantly, the continued generosity of our readers and activists donating a few dollars at a time. Those donations really added up and helped us continue to produce the quality of content and effective actions you expect from us.
As we start to close out the year and look ahead to 2024, we know that we will likely continue to be plagued by low advertising revenue. However, we cannot lose sight of our mission, especially in such a critical election year: Daily Kos exists to deliver progressive news and fight for democracy by giving our readers and activists the information and resources needed to create impactful change.
Daily Kos still needs to raise $236,204 to close the books on 2023. Jack, help us be prepared for what is ahead of us with a donation of $5 today.
