Letter from the Mayor
Hello Service Ambassadors,
I hope you had a Happy New Year!
Serve DC is in the community kicking off another year of public service!
December, we held our My Brother’s Keeper DC Local Action Summit & Volunteer Fair, at Martin Luther King Library. This year’s event was hosted in partnership with Youth Invest Partners, DC Public Library, and Gilded Knight. Participants engaged in conversations and calls to action that support positive life outcomes for young men and boys of color.
Serve DC kicked off our first DC Volunteer Snow Team training! Serve DC & the Mayor's Office of the Clean City welcomed the Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC) & DC Community Ambassadors to attend our DC Snow Hero volunteer training. We provided participants with resources and tools to be successful during our snow deployments.
In support of Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Department of Aging and Community Living, we passed out Senior Emergency Go - Kits to residents to utilize during the snow season. Many thanks to our DC Agencies and Volunteers who continue to serve in our communities when needed.
Our National Service Team Visited the NCCC team at the Salvation Army site in Hyattsville. They were completing service projects in DC for the past 4 weeks (out of their 10-month term). At the Salvation Army, they sorted and packaged toys to be distributed to families in the DMV. What a great way to bring in the holidays!
On behalf of Mayor Bowser, our DC CERT attended Calvary Episcopal Church to participate in a Multi-Agency Preparedness Event. Other agencies included DC Fire & Emergency Services, & DC Homeland Security.
We recently graduated our Certified Emergency Response Team (CERT) Fall cohort! Serve DC has successfully graduated 162 residents who are trained to act as an Emergency Responder until help arrives. Our CERT members are trained in First Aid - CPR, Fire Suppression and more. We are excited for our 2024 Spring Cohort registration!
In this spirit, please check out our recently published December Funding alert! These grant offerings and resources are available to you and your networks. Cheers to a new year of collaboration & public service.
