Trump's trial date is set for March 4 in the federal case re: his attempts to overthrow the 2020 election. Special counsel Jack Smith is asking the court to prevent Trump from making political attacks during the trial. We've seen the way Trump has already attacked people involved in the case, and there's no doubt he'll unleash his hatred and vitriol in the courtroom in front of a jury. So the prosecution is asking that the court "not permit the defendant to turn the courtroom into a forum in which he propagates irrelevant disinformation, and should reject his attempt to inject politics into this proceeding." Jack Smith is also calling for Trump to be barred from claiming he is being prosecuted only for political reasons: "In addition to being wrong, these allegations are irrelevant to the jury's determination of the defendant's guilt or innocence, would be prejudicial if presented to the jury, and must be excluded." The jury should be able to hear a case based on facts, not Trump's baseless attacks and lies. We need the court to put restrictions in place so Trump cannot turn the courtroom into a circus.
