When Mr. Gonzales became unexpectedly ill, he was no longer able to work. Overnight, his wife had to become the sole breadwinner and caretaker for their family. But as a recent immigrant with limited English skills, she had to find work, learn how to drive and navigate health care for her husband – all while figuring out how to put food on the table for their three kids.

That’s where No Kid Hungry came in.

We had been supporting their local school district’s efforts to serve students three meals every day, which ensured the Gonzales kids were consistently getting healthy food – including during the summer and school closures. Now, Mr. Gonzales’ health has drastically improved, and they’re filled with gratitude that they never had to worry about their kids getting enough to eat.
