UK Government seeking extension to transition

Best for Britain's supporters have been heard. The UK can only deal with one crisis at a time.

With face-to-face negotiations cancelled and a global pandemic upon us, the UK government is reportedly looking at agreeing to extend the transition period beyond the current 31st December end point.

Best for Britain has been calling for this course of action since the pandemic started and we fully support the government in making the right choice. Just as we support their efforts to control the virus.

Our country is fighting Coronavirus tooth and nail, but we need to tackle one crisis at a time. It makes no sense to impose an arbitrary deadline for a trade deal with the EU under those circumstances. If we give ourselves no time, we won’t get a good deal – it’s as simple as that.

Make sure your MP knows you support them on this. Make sure they know they can help the government agree an extension to the transition period to give us the time we need.

Since the UK left the EU on 31st January, we have been in transition. This means many of the rules and processes have stayed the same even though we're not EU members.

The Withdrawal Agreement with the EU says transition ends no matter what on 31st December 2020. The risk has always been that if no future trade deal with the EU was agreed in time we would end up with No Deal.

Britain stands to benefit massively by removing that unhelpful deadline. Make sure your MP knows you support it.
