I'm reaching out personally to ask you to chip in $6 before the end-of-year deadline to help Emily Randall become the first LGBTQ+ representative from Washington state.

But first, a quick story about me and why I’m invested in this race.

In 1994, my Republican opponent outed me as gay with bigoted and homophobic ads in our district. I hadn’t even come out publicly yet!

I lost that race, but I didn’t give up. Almost 20 years later, I ran again, this time as a proudly out gay man — and I won!

But if 2023 showed us anything, it’s that we still have so much work to do. Republicans spent the year passing vicious anti-LGBTQ+ laws across the country — including many targeting kids.

I need bold leaders like Emily Randall with me in Congress — not just to fight back against the hate but to deliver results for working people on health care, climate, and union rights.

And as Emily put it: “Representation isn’t just symbolic.” We must show queer and trans kids that no matter who they are or what they look like, there is no limit to what they can do.
